We can trace the use and adoration of these precious stones to ancient Greece and Rome where they believed in metaphysical properties of the gems, as well as holding the power of the Gods and Goddesses. If we look even further back, we find the ancient Egyptians used these gems for jewelry and weapons, as well believing in the stones’ power to have contact the ancient gods. In Europe during the Middle Ages, and even more recently in India, pharmacists sold powdered gems as medicine. They were typically to be taken with water or herbal tea. The most expensive gemstones were thought to have the greatest curative powers. Red gems were supposed to help stop bleeding while green ones were supposed to help the eyes, due to green being a restful color, and yellow stones were believed to cure jaundice. While this is not the main use of these gemstones today, the belief and power of the gemstones to enrich lives is still rooted well within them. Any gem that adorns the body will also have an effect on one’s aura, which is why it is important to have the highest quality and the cleanest energy.
